Killington “The Beast” and Pico, its Sister Mountain, is over 5 hours away from NYC by car. Whatever the distance, avid ski lovers agree that it is worth the trip because it is the largest ski area in Vermont.

TRAVEL BY TRAIN OR BUS

If you want to save your energy for skiing and don’t want to fly, AMTRAK is the only way to go. You can easily hop on a train from New York City to Rutland, Vermont, by way of Albany which “lucky or you” occurs daily. AIR TRAVEL

Killington is the type of resort that people don’t think twice about traveling to it by air. Air travel is quick and gives you more time to ski.

There are several airports to fly into. Here are just a few:

MAGIC MOUNTAIN

AIR TRAVEL

Flying may not be your best bet to getting to Magic Mountain. Planes leaving from La Guardia Airport land in Manchester, VT and you have to take a bus from there. Planes leaving from Newark, NJ land in Albany, NY with (you guessed it?) another bus travel to the mountain. Both ways add a considerable amount of time, at least 1 to possibly 4 hrs. In additional travel time. Best bet, either drive or take the rail. In the long run it saves time and money.

PROSPECT MOUNTAIN

Prospect Mountain is in Woodford, VT is rather unique in that it specializes in Nordic skiing. That’s right! For all you Nordic types, you can cross country ski to your heart’s content in less than a 4 hour drive from New York City. Even more exciting, Prospect Mountain boast trails that you can bring your dog(s) with you and let them frolic in the snow as you ski and take in its beautiful scenery.

Unfortunately, Prospect Mountain It is closed now, but as soon as the snow falls it will be open for business, which is only moments away!

Jay Peak has the well-deserved reputation of having the most snowfall of any other mountain in eastern North America. That translates into excellent ski conditions. Okemo Mountain is located in Ludlow, VT. There is something for everybody. No matter what your skiing prowess is or not, you can always find some fun things to do. Okemo’s strength is in meeting the needs of a diverse crowd. They say even the most hard to please people will come back with a good story or two. Okemo Mountain is considered the crème of the crop in ski areas however we ask that you check it out and decide for yourself.

Getting to Okemo Mountain from New York City

TRAVEL BY CAR

It takes approximately 4 ½ hours to drive from NYC to Okemo Mountain. May we suggest using either I-95N, I-91N, I-87 N or IS-4E. Whatever is best for you.

TRAVEL BY TRAIN OR BUS

It takes double the driving time to get to Okemo by Train. Rent a car if you do drive. It is cheaper and cost less in the long run if you are traveling with a large group or your family.

The Stratton Jitney is always a good option for those who wish to travel by bus. Just remember it is a much longer ride, but you don’t have to worry about getting lost on the road.

AIR TRAVEL

Whether you are departing from Newark, NJ or La Guardia, NY, your destination is the same, Manchester, NH. From Manchester, you’ll have to catch a bus or rent a car adding possibly an hour or 2 of extra travel time.
